Resume of Mr. Prakash
Subbarao
My name is Prakash
Subbarao. I am from Bangalore and am 57 years old. I head
Spark Consultants.
I have had a meteoric career growth.
I joined the British MNC
Chloride India Limited in Calcutta as a Management Trainee in 1975.
As an Area Sales
Manager with Vikrant Tyres by 1982, I handled three southern states -
Karnataka, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh based at Bangalore, Ernakulam and
Hyderabad respectively.
I joined T.I.Diamond Chain Limited (a
company in the billion Dollar Murugappa Group) in 1985 as a Regional
Manager based in Chennai. A little over a year later I was promoted
to the position of National Sales Manager, superseding three other
Regional managers, two of whom were IIMs from Ahmedabad. This rapid progress was due to my having increased my
team to increase the
company's market share significantly in South India through innovative
marketing strategies.
A mechanical engineer
from UVCE (1974 batch), I have undergone short term management training at
Indian Institutes of Management Ahmedabad and Bangalore (residential
executive training programs). I have also attended the Asian
Advertising Congress in New Delhi in 1982 and have the privilege of
meeting David
Ogilvy, the Father of Advertising, there.
I have been running Spark Consultants since 1988.
I took Spark Consultants overseas to Dubai and opened an office there in
1998.
I was in the UAE between
1998 and 2004 and among my interesting assignments were the designing of a
web portal for the Jebel Ali Free Zone and a school children's learning
portal for the Abu Dhabi based based Zenith Group.
Some interesting things that I have done in the past:
-
Created high levels of
sales in most of the companies that I worked for – in some cases even
setting records. This gave me a meteoric career growth.
-
Ran Bangalore’s first
corporate bulletin board service (BBS) called SparkNet in pre-internet
days with a dedicated server and a dedicated telephone line.
-
Created an HRD magazine
called Techno Spark that was, in its heydays, mailed free of cost to
thousands of companies all over South India. It supplied summarized
résumés from A (Accountants) to W (Welders) to companies. It was something
“different”. It opened very many doors for me……….from Birla 3M to TVS
Suzuki and many companies in between.
-
Developed Spark Consultants
into Bangalore’s largest internet services company during the period 1990
– 1998 and boasted a blue chip clientele.
-
Was invited to address the
Indo-American Chamber Of Commerce, Bangalore, India in 1996 as a
specialist speaker on how to use the Internet to increase business.
-
Created a 450 page portal
on Dubai (www.datadubai.com). Sold it in January 2006 to a British real
estate company in Dubai.
-
Created
The Bangalore
Quiz Group in September 2004. It is one of India's most
respected quizzing organizations and I run it as a hobby.
-
Created an eLearning portal
called The Seventh Sense.
-
Am currently working on a
Dubai mega-portal. The project is scheduled to complete in September 2008.
-
Am working on various
Indian business portals.
